Ford Brings New Level of Fuel-Efficiency With New Three-Cylinder Engine

Ford's lineup is evolving to reflect the ever-growing trend in fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness that is being conveyed by the general public. Make no mistake about it either, Ford wants customers to feel good about the choice they have made when they drive their new vehicle off a dealership lot, like Anderson Ford. Specifically, they are introducing their most fuel-efficient small engine ever: the 1.0-liter, EcoBoost, three-cylinder engine.
"Consumers are telling us they want to buy affordable vehicles that get many more miles per gallon," says Derrick Kuzack, Group VP of Global Product Development, Ford. "Our new 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine will give consumers looking for the hybrid-like fuel economy a new, more affordable choice."1 Kuzack calls the innovative powerplant a "little dynamo", and he explains went to explain that while it "might be small in size"...[it's] "big on technology".2
One thing that the new 1.0-liter, EcoBoost, three-cylinder engine isn't big on: Emissions. Ford is working diligently to ensure that the new small engine is light on emissions to stay in line with the public's growing concern. They plan to ensure this by optimizing the thermal efficiency and mitigating friction on the internal mobile components.
Joe Bakej, Global Powertrain Engineering, Ford, goes on to explain that their new three-cylinder engine brings a wide range of new technologies with it to the table. These are technologies that the American automaker would love to see become standard components in future engines, giving hope for more segments than just the compact and subcompact ones.
Ford is planning to launch their incredible new engine around the world in their small-car lineup's debut. Here in the United States, we can more than likely expect the 1.0-liter, EcoBoost, three-cylinder engine make its way under the Ford Fiesta's hood. Rumors aside, we will more than likely have to wait for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September for official details.
