How can the Ford Focus be Under 20 and Over 35?

Put into the right context, it is entirely possible for the Ford Focus to be under 20 and over 35. And, that is exactly what the people at USA Today and Cars.com did with their "Under 20/ Over 35 Shootout." In the survey, vehicles that achieved an impressive 35 mpg or greater, while also costing less than $20,000 were put to the test.

At Anderson Ford, we think that this is a great idea, especially given the current state of gas prices. And, with no relief in sight at the pumps, we were quite eager to see how Ford did in this survey. And, now that we know, we are ready to pass the information right along to you!

After weeding out all of the vehicles that either did not achieve a satisfactory fuel economy or that cost too much money, USA Today and Cars.com were left with only five competitors. So, making the list alone is an accomplishment in itself, and amongst those cars on the list was the 2012 Ford Focus.

After determining which vehicles would be tested, the panel of judges put each model through a series of tests to see which ones would perform the best. This was done for three days with each model, and they ranked them each one through five. And, while the 2012 Focus took dead last at fifth place, it earned rave reviews for its style and handling. In other words: they still loved it.

According to Cars.com, "The Focus has been redesigned for 2012 and many of our experts like the new look."1 The panel also raved, "the focus is nimble"..."at-the-limit handling is stellar"..."It's handling composure and sharp-steering put the others to shame."2

One of the main reasons that the judges did not give the 2012 Ford Focus a higher score, in the end, was because of its "snug confines." But, while some may look at the Focus as being too snug, we have to note that it is larger than the outgoing Focus model from last year. And, it may be small, but the Focus delivers big when it comes to cost and performance. And, if you don't believe us you could always come see for yourself by taking one for a test-drive at 1001 State Route 10 West Clinton, IL 61727. Just don't blame us if you fall in love with the Focus after taking it for a spin!

No matter what place in the list vehicle comes in though, it will always come down to personal preference.  After all, a vehicle that scored higher than the Focus was noted as having the "choppiest ride of the bunch."3 And really, what sounds better, a wider cabin or a smoother ride? We'll stick with the Focus, thank you very much.
