What Has Ford Collaborating with their Greatest Enemy?

It might seem strange, but it's true: Ford and Toyota are teaming up. Why would the beloved American automaker choose to align itself with one of its most fierce competitors? The reason is simple: to innovate the automotive industry. We here at Anderson Ford know that nothing drives innovation quite like healthy competition. But, what drives it even more is when two rivals put aside their differences to help ensure that their customers have a positive experience for years to come.
That said, there are two reasons behind Ford and Toyota's decision to team up. The first, and foremost, reason for the two auto giants collaborating with each other is he joint development of a new rear-wheel drive system to be used in a series of light trucks and SUVs. Given Toyota's previous experience working with hybrid systems, and Ford's vast knowledge of trucks and SUVs, this paring makes near perfect sense.
And the second reason for this new partnership? Ford and Toyota plan to combine their efforts in order to develop a new standard for in-car telematics and internet-based services. Derrick Kuzak, Group VP, Global Product Development, Ford reports, "Ford has made tremendous progress in the area of telematics. We have unique and very good solutions today with SYNC and MyFord Touch. Working together on in-vehicle standards can only enhance our customers' experience with their vehicles."2
Fear not though, lovers of American vehicles. The top-quality autos that we carry here at 1001 State Route 10 West Clinton, IL 61727 will remain the American-made masterpieces that you know and love. This new partnership simply allows the good people at Ford to ensure that models like the Ford Explorer, Ford Flex, and Ford Escape, continue to lead the pack in terms of their technology.
At this time, however, the two companies have only signed a memorandum of understanding. This simply means that the two automakers acknowledge the fact that they will begin working together in the near future.
"This agreement brings together the capability of two global leaders in hybrid vehicles and hybrid technology to develop a better solution more quickly and affordably for our customers," says Derrick Kuzak, Group VP, Global Product Development, Ford. "Ford achieved a breakthrough with the Ford Fusion Hybrid, and we intend to do this again for a new group of trucks and SUV buyers - customers we know very well."1
