Ford Sends CD Players Packing

Some may question Ford's decision to discontinue CD players in their new model lineup, but we here at Anderson Ford think that the American automaker is paving the way for the automotive industry as a whole. We realize that you may be wondering how exactly the removal of a specific technology can lead to industry-wide innovations, which is why we thought we'd take a minute to go over Ford's latest initiative.

More specifically, Ford plans to remove CD players from its lineup will being overseas, where the Ford Focus will be stripped of its CD player in Europe. Fear not though music lovers. Ford won't make you go without a way to listen to your favorite tunes while you're behind the wheel. Instead of strapping the Focus with one of those lyrics filled shiny disc players, they'll introduce drivers to the new Ford Sync system, which features music streaming technology.

Ford's move to replace CD players with the new Sync system is not one made on a whim. Rather, the American automaker has been tirelessly crunching data to figure out what they're next move should be concerning entertainment technology in their vehicles. This decision was based on the fact that Ford is currently estimating that around two-million cars will have the Sync system equipped in a mere four years.

In other words, the Ford models that we carry here at 1001 State Route 10 West Clinton, IL 61727 won't be losing their ability to pump out your favorite jam any time soon. Rather, they're actually in for a pretty sweet upgrade in the near future. How long before we see this upgrade has yet to be decided, however.

Offering valuable perspective on Ford's aggressive tactic, Sheryl Connelly, Global Trends and Futuring Manager, Ford, says, "In-car entertainment technology is moving digital more rapidly than almost any other element of vehicle experience. The in-car CD-Player - much like pay telephones is destined to fade away in the face of exciting new technology."1
